Gaffer for Feature Film, Cape Town
Looking for a seasoned Gaffer to lead our lighting team starting late August 2026 for an independent feature film. This is a dramatic thriller set in contemporary Cape Town, with a gritty, atmospheric visual style. We're aiming for a strong festival run and theatrical release. Your role will be critical in translating the DP's vision into practical, impactful lighting. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the Director of Photography, managing the gaffing crew, overseeing lighting setups, and ensuring all electrical safety protocols are met. You'll be responsible for planning and executing complex lighting schemes for various locations, including night exteriors and practical interiors. We need someone with extensive feature film experience, a strong understanding of both traditional and LED lighting systems, and a proactive problem-solving attitude. Please have your own basic kit (meters, tools, etc.), but all major lighting packages will be provided. A strong reel showcasing your narrative work is essential. Shoot will be approximately 4-5 weeks, five days a week, with some longer days as needed. Prep will be about a week prior to principal photography. We're offering $100-$200 per day, depending on experience. Meals and local transport during production will be covered. This is a chance to make a real impact on a compelling story with a passionate crew.
