Lighting for Documentary

We are looking for a skilled Gaffer to lead our lighting department for an upcoming independent documentary project in Lagos. This film explores the vibrant cultural intersection of traditional Nigerian arts and modern digital expression. It's a compelling story with an intimate, observational style, requiring a keen eye for natural light and creative problem-solving. We need someone who can help us craft a visually rich narrative that feels authentic and cinematic. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the DP and Director, executing lighting plans, managing lighting equipment, and ensuring safe power distribution on set. You'll be responsible for striking a balance between efficient, run-and-gun setups and more deliberate, aesthetically driven scenes. This is a mid-level position, so you should be comfortable taking initiative and working independently when needed. Applicants should have their own basic lighting package (e.g., small LED panels, reflectors, stands) and experience with documentary-style lighting. Please provide a link to your reel or relevant work samples demonstrating your lighting capabilities. We anticipate a shoot schedule of approximately 3-4 weeks, starting around September 13, 2026. Daily hours will vary but expect typical documentary production days. Compensation is deferred, with an agreement in place for payment upon distribution and sales. We will provide transportation within Lagos for crew and gear, as well as meals on set.
