Lighting for Documentary

An independent production is seeking an experienced Best Boy Electric for an upcoming feature documentary. This project explores the unique stories of urban wildlife in Vancouver, focusing on their nocturnal habits and survival strategies, offering a visually compelling and intimate look into a hidden world. We're aiming for a cinematic, naturalistic aesthetic. You'll be instrumental in supporting the Gaffer, managing lighting equipment, and executing our lighting plan efficiently and safely. Key responsibilities include overseeing power distribution, supervising junior crew, maintaining gear, and collaborating closely with the Gaffer and DP. We're looking for someone with at least 5 years of professional experience in documentary or narrative film, a strong understanding of various lighting fixtures, and the ability to troubleshoot on the fly. Must have a valid driver's license and ideally, access to a reliable vehicle. We expect approximately 15-20 shoot days, mostly overnight, scheduled across September 2026. Daily rate is $1000-1500, commensurate with experience. All essential gear will be provided on set. Please submit your resume and a reel or portfolio highlighting relevant work.
